Hey mommas to be! Today’s blog is just for you, so we can talk all about what to wear for your maternity session. I love documenting those beautiful growing bellies and there are so many different ways that you can accentuate your curves, all within your comfort levels.
If you take a look at my “What to Wear For Your Maternity Session” Pinterest board, you’ll see a few things:
- I love any fabric that is chic and feminine. This can be lace, soft flowing cotton, silky soft and tulles. The beauty of these materials is that they are comfortable as well as photograph beautifully.
- Softer color palettes photograph beautifully, and I typically recommend wearing soft neutrals for your maternity session.
- I also recommend wearing solid colors – meaning nothing with stripes or wild patterns. We want the focus to be on you and your belly and not so much what you’re wearing.
- Incorporating mother nature into what to wear for your maternity session is another way to add femininity and a bit of fine art to your shoot. My personal favorite is when mommas wear floral crowns – there’s something so beautiful and chic about it!
- Another personal favorite is when maternity clients wear long, flowing floor-length gowns with trains, too. When the breeze picks up the dress and it curves around the belly? Ooooh yes! It’s my absolute favorite!
What else can you wear for your maternity session?
Absolutely nothing!
Boudoir maternity sessions are becoming quite popular and for a good reason – they are AMAZING. It’s the most real and raw a woman can be, and I vote for dedicating a portion of your maternity session for a few of these images, if this fits your vision for your session! Many of my clients might even choose to wear a beautiful robe in a soft color or bring along their favorite neural colored undergarments.
