Best Cameras For Kids Age 3-18 | A Christmas Gift Guide By Age From St Louis Family Photographer

BEST CAMERAS FOR KIDS | Looking for a camera for kids this Christmas? I get this question every year around Christmas time! So I wanted to put together a list of camera recommendations for the families that I work with. These will be listed by age group however, these could be used by all ages.

CAMERAs FOR KIDS AGES 0+

These are obviously not real cameras however if you know me, you know my obsession with wooden toys. So, obviously, I HAD to include these in the list! I have gifted some of these to my baby milestone clients over the years and they have always been a big hit with families and little ones. These might just spark a love for photography from a young age!

  1. Father’s Factory – Heirloom Wooden Cameras $60-80
Wooden cameras, fathers factory, handmade camera, toy, heirloom wooden toys

2. KIKO+ Wooden Camera $30

wooden toy camera for boy, wooden camera for baby and toddler

3. The Nordic Wooden Camera – $16

CAMERAs FOR AGES 3-5

Here’s a tricky one! We need a camera that will keep them interested at this age, but can hold up to the destructive nature of a toddler! I’m told this one is pretty sturdy!

CAMERAS FOR KIDS AGES 9-13

There are two cameras that I love to recommend for this age group. First up is such a fun camera! It will print photos instantly, which is even more exciting for kids in this age group. Seeing their work come to life makes them feel like a true photographer. The only downside is the cost of film over time and some little ones will go crazy and go through the film very quickly. But this age group can easily understand the need to only take the shot when they know they have it!

  1. FUJIFILM INSTAX MINI 11 Instant Film Camera (Blush Pink)
fujifilm instant camera, pink instant film camera, best camera for kids

2.

CAMERAS FOR AGES 14-18+

Do you have a child with a true love for photography who needs to test the waters with learning the skills of a pro? There are two cameras that many photographers start out with. This one has photo and video capability and allows you to switch out your lenses for different photo needs.

  1. Canon EOS Rebel T100 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens
beginner camera, DSLR camera for kids

2. Canon EOS 7D DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Kit

semi pro camera, canon 7d, canon dslr, best camera for teens

This camera is for the semi/one-day-pro. This camera comes with a kit lens. It’s not ideal but a good start if you don’t have a budget for a better lens. If you do have the budget, buy this camera as a “body only” and grab a higher-quality lens. A 24-70mm or a 50mm would be great for most!

Message me if you have more questions and need help shopping this Christmas!

A rating of 5 is not high enough for Kelly!! Kelly is an amazing photographer, was absolutely wonderful to work with, and was quick to reply to emails. Shes an upbeat and positive person, which made out photo sessions comfortable and fun!! Kelly is professional in more ways than one and I highly recommend her to anyone in the St. Louis area wanting some maternity and/or family photos taken!
